Mr. Michael Arthur Benson, 56, of Frederick, died on Thursday, July 29, 2004, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Carolyn Sue Benson.

Born in Bethesda, Md., on September 26, 1947, he was a son of the late Warner Richard and Rae Lee Benson.

Mr. Benson was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in two tours with the United States Army. During his first tour he served with the 17th Calvary Division, and his second tour was served with the 101st Airborne Division "Screaming Eagles." At the end of his military career, he received an honorable discharge with the rank of Captain. During his tenure in the Army he was awarded medals and commendations, including two Bronze Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, a Purple Heart and the UN Service Medal. After his discharge from the Army, he graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in sociology.

Mr. Benson was employed with the King Automotive Group, LLC, for over 26 years, most recently serving as general manager at Saturn of Frederick, a division of King Automotive Group, LLC. Mr. Benson was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a respected business leader and a beloved mentor. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed the game of golf and football and being out in the yard working.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Charlie Benson of Frederick, Briget Warfield and husband Kyle of Frederick, and Stacey Benson of Charleston, S.C.; grandchildren, Gabrielle Benson, Kiley Warfield, Ryan Benson and Peyton Warfield; and siblings, Richard Benson and wife Dinah of Urbana, Robert Benson and wife Debbie of Damascus, and Cappie Fyffe and husband Robert of Laytonsville. He is also survived by two cousins with special remembrance, John and William Benson.

Friends may call at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church St., Frederick, on Sunday, August 1, from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m., where funeral services will be held on Monday, August 2, at 2 p.m., with the Reverend John H. Dean of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Urbana, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Melanoma Research Foundation, 24 Old Georgetown Road, Princeton, NJ 08540.
