Born in Floral, he was the son of Henry and Laura Jackson Altom. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Floral Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Anna I. Dossett Altom: two sons, Noel Dean Altom of Floral and Ronald E. Altom of Independence, MO: three daughters, Alfreda Frazier of Floral, Joetta Beel of Independence, MO and Leotta Blair of Greenbriar, AR: a brother, Earl Altom of Southside: 20 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
