Melvin L. Pemelton 78 of Visalia Left this life peacefully in the company of his family, at home, Saturday. Sept. 8, 2007 He was born in Texas then moved to California in 1934 at age 5. he graduated Strathmore High School in 1947 then worked for George France construction until 1951 when he was drafted in the Army. Melvin served his country in korea where he was seriously wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart.
After returning from korea Melvin went to work repairing typewriters and office equpment for James Dunn then later for James' son Richard in 1979 Melvin purchased Dunn's office Equipment and operated the business until his retirement in 1994 during the 50's and 60's Melvin was active in the Visalia Ramblers Motorcycle Club and held many titles including president severaly times through the years. during the 70's and 80's he enjoyed square and round dancing. he was a charter member and President of the Sequoia Squares and a member of the Round Dees. Melvin is survived by his loving wife of 54 yrs, Naomi Their daughter Linda Whelan and her husband Christopher of Gold River their son Steven Pemelton and his wife Susan and daughter Hailey and Rachel of Visalia. he is also survived by his two brothers James L. Pemelton and wife Jackie of Exeter CA and Harvey pemelton and his wife Shirley of Pleasant View, Tennessee and Uncle Lawrence"Fibber" Pemelton of Lindsay: sister-in-law Claudia Brookshire and husband Garry of Visalia Esther Olson of Ivanhoe and Doris Costa of Fresno, and numereous cousins, nieces and nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Mary Pemelton, In -laws Coy and Lessie Glispey of Ivanhoe and brother -in- law Matthew Glispey. Melvin was able to share with his family and additional 14 years of happy time after being diagnosed with cancer in 1993. During retirement he enjoyed many recitals, soccer games and numerous activities with his granddaughters, regularly meeting his classmates for breakfast, exercising at lifestyles gym, taking care of his and Others' Pets, and visiting with his neighbors His family wishes to thank his doctors, support groups, and Optimal Hospice Care who helped him diligently and with dignity deal with prostate cancer and diabetes Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, Sept 14 2007 at the Visalia Cemetery The family request that in lieu of flowers donation in Melvin's honor be made to American Cancer Society or Valley oak SPCA. and every one is Welcome to join the family at the Vintage Press for Food and a time to remember Melvins' life.
