Longtime local resident Duain Edwin Buck Sr., 77, of Kelso died March 2, 2010, at a local adult care facility. He was born Jan. 18, 1933, in South Sioux City, Neb., to Lloyd and Thelma (Morlan) Buck. On Jan. 24, 1959, Duain married the love his life, Coramay.

Duain was an electrician, a welder in Alaska, worked on the Grand Coule Dam, and owned a body shop, service station and two tow trucks. He also owned and operated a diner and was a cook in several others. Duain also held a position on the sheriff's reserves in the early 1960's. He retired as a long haul truck driver. Many will remember him as a "Jack of all trades".

Before Duain's stroke in March of 2008, he was often found occupying a booth at a local coffee shop, chatting up a storm with his longtime friends. He never met anyone he couldn't talk an ear off. He also enjoyed smoking fish, hunting and reading every book and newspaper that came along. He loved to fix a plate for visitors. The coffee was always on and the cribbage board was always out in Buck's shop. He loved to restore cars, trucks, boats and the occasional bus. He also liked to make ornamental ironwork to spruce up Coramay's garden.

Duain is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Coramay; nine children, Liz (Art) Bate of Kalama, Randy (Kathleen) of Bellingham, Robin (Roy) of Kelso, Christina (Terry) English of Kelso, Duain Jr. (Kelli) of Castle Rock, Terry (Mike) Bendickson of Kelso, Billy (Brenda) Buck of Castle Rock, Bonnie Reeves of Castle Rock and Donald Buck of Kelso; four siblings, Robert Buck of Woodland, Roy Buck of Castle Rock, Betty Owens of Toledo and Eva Lucky of Sandpoint, Idaho; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Buck; and a sister, Hazel Ball.

A celebration of Duain's life and potluck will be held at 2 p.m. March 14 at the Three Rivers Mall Community Room. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Cascade Northwest Funeral Chapel at Green Hills Memorial Gardens & Crematory.
