Laura Hazelnut Abernathy Walton was the oldest daughter of James Edward Abernathy III and Nancy Abernathy.
Laura was born in Birmingham, Alabama just outside of the hospital. A midwife and nurse responded quickly and brought her safely into this world in the middle of a blizzard (literally!!)
Laura excelled in academics, music, and sports from a young age. She was fluent in 5 languages, had visited every continent except Antarctica. She won state championships, was awarded a college scholarship to Central Florida to lead the Equestrian Team and qualified for the 1988 Olympics.
As a career academic at several institutions, culminating at Auburn, she established herself as an expert in the field of Veterinary Ethics, specializing in equine cloning potentialities .
Her one marriage ended in an unsolved killing. Mr. Harland Joel Walton was shot 15 times by Dr. Walton.
She was found not guilty as the jury agreed with the defense she acted in self defense.
Dr. Walton fell in love only once more, though she took many lovers.
Rest In Peace
