Nellie Roberta Ellis, 94, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Pioneer Lodge in Coldwater, KS. Born July 13, 1928, in Woods County, OK, she was the daughter of John Westley and Effie (Scates) Hoffman. Growing up, Nellie and her sister, Belle, played guitar and sang at church.

On July 18, 1946, five days after her 18th birthday, she married Phy W. Ellis at Scott City, KS. He preceded her in death on November 28, 1994.

Nellie was a long time resident of Comanche County, KS, also living in Dodge City, KS for several years. Nellie and Phy enjoyed their time in Dodge City, where Nellie worked at Woolworth's and loved to see people from Comanche County come in. Nellie was a hard worker and worked as a cook at many restaurants during her life, including The Sale Barn and The Honey House with LeRoy, Patty, and Jess. Many will remember her fried chicken on Fridays.

Nellie enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She and Phy had a timeshare in Branson, MO, and took Jess there every year for vacation. Chatting with friends over coffee was a favorite pastime of hers and she always looked forward to a phone call from her great-granddaughters. She loved to hear about school and Jaela's bunny trouble.

Even as she got older, you'd rarely see Nellie without a pair of dangly earrings on. She was a beautiful woman and a bit of a spitfire, which many came to love. She will be missed but has joined her loved ones now and is at peace.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; five sisters; a son-in-law: LeRoy Fose; and an infant grandson: Emmanuel Fose.

She is survived by one daughter: Patty Fose; one granddaughter: Jessica Martin and her husband Josh; and two great-granddaughters.

A Celebration of Life Visitation with Family Present is from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday, November 7, 2022, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Pioneer Lodge.
