MAYES, William D., "Bill," 88, of Henrico, died October 19, 2022. He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Nancy Fryer Mayes. He is survived by his daughters, Susan L. Mayes and Melissa M. Gillespie (Eric); three grandchildren, Mayes, Dana and Kelli Gillespie; and sister-in-law, Betty Fryer of Aylett. Bill was a graduate of Virginia Tech, an Army veteran and was employed by Phillips Lighting for 36 years. He was a Deacon and longtime member of First Baptist Church, Richmond, Glen Allen Masonic Lodge 131 and the Scottish Rite Temple of Richmond. Bill loved his family, golf and all things Virginia Tech. A memorial service will be held Monday, November 28, 2022, 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Richmond, with a reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Community Missions at First Baptist Church, Richmond.
