William Daniel Walker was a son of William Walker and Susanna Powell, a grandson of Colonel John Walker and Elizabeth Watson, a descendant of George Walker, Governor of Londonderry during the Siege of 1689.

His father was one of the Heroes who fought at the Battle of King's Mountain. Colonel John Walker had an illustrious military career and had been a Signer of the Tryon Resolves, a declaration of discontent on the actions of the British against the residents of the Carolina colony which predated the Declaration of Independence by a year. Patrick Ferguson imprisoned his grandmother, Elizabeth Watson Walker, in her own cellar to prevent the Whigs from burning her plantation house which he was using as his headquarters while in the area to recruit Tories in the battles against the Upcountry holdouts.

On January 15, 1797, William Daniel Walker married Sarah Mooney Mauney. They had several children including:

Daniel Webster Walker
Elizabeth Walker
Sarah Paralee Walker

Walker continued his family tradition of service to country and fought in the War of 1812. He was captured and was a prisoner of war for a time.

Deward Edgar Walker, a great, great, grandson of William Daniel Walker joined the Sons of the American Revolution through William Daniel Walker. His SAR Membership Application, 87393, was published online.

While the actual burial site of William Daniel Walker remains unknown, there is a Memorial Stone in his honor him in the Cantrell Gilliand Memorial Garden. May this memorial serve as an expression of the gratitude we owe William Walker and his family members for their contribution s in building our America.
