Carmelita Brown Calvert, dedicated wife, mother, and friend of many passed away on October 24, 2022, at the age of 89 in Stanardsville, Va.

Carm was born to Forrest and Hazel Brown in Kilgore, Tx. on September 20, 1933, the youngest of 4 children.  She graduated from Cleveland High School in Cleveland Tx.  As a young girl, she traveled extensively with her parents all over the US.  After graduation, she continued to travel with various jobs in the oil and gas industry.

In 1956, Carm met Don Calvert in Spokane, Wa.  Don was an officer in the United States Air Force.  The couple were married in 1956 in Spokane Wa.  In the following years, she lived in Washington, California, Ohio, and Virginia. 

In 2013, Carm retired from the United States Air Force Office of Scientific Research after a career spanning 47 years. 

Carm never lost her love of traveling.  She and Don were able to visit the Far East, China, Europe, and Africa.  Throughout her life, she enjoyed bowling, playing Bridge, and spending time with her grandchildren and friends as well as her beloved cats. 
Carm was a member of the Otoe-Missouria Tribe of Native Americans, the DAR, the local garden club, and Swift Run Baptist Church.

Carmelita was predeceased by her parents, her 2 brothers, Claude and Gene, her sister, Edna Frances, and her daughter, Donna Lynn.
She is survived by her husband, Don, son Rick and wife Deana Calvert of The Woodlands Tx, grandchildren, Larissa and husband, Patrick Brooks of Atlanta, Ga., Ryan Calvert of Atlanta, Ga, Brenna and her husband Tracy Jost of Hillsboro, Ks. 
Great grandchildren, Talia Brooks, Blue Calvert, River Calvert. 

The family would like to thank the dedicated care workers for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital and the Alzheimer's Association.

A Memorial Service will be held at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, Va on Thursday, October 27 @ 10:30 am.
A private burial for the family will be held at Culpeper National Cemetery.
