Perry - Michael Brown Sr. passed away on October 24, 2022 after a battle with heart failure. He was born in Eastport on January 31, 1946, son of Alexander and Beatrice (Cassidy) Brown.

He was predeceased by his parents; and siblings, Karen, Ruth and John. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, his 2 sons, his 4 grandchildren, whom he treasured Halle, his sister and her husband, his sister-in-law, along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Michael graduated from Shead Memorial High School, where he met his wife, who asked him out to the "Sadie Hawkins" dance. They were together for 5 years before they married, but he knew from the start that she was the one. Right after marriage they lived in various military installations, where he served with the 82nd Airborne Division, First Cav, 10th Special Forces, and the 37th Vietnamese Ranger Battalion, where he served as an advisor in 1971. He completed 2 tours of Vietnam, until he medically retired from the Army as a Captain and was awarded a purple heart. After his service, he went to UMO graduating in 1976 and attended Boat School in Lubec. They settled down in Perry, renovated their home, and tirelessly perfected it as a labor of love. He was a boat builder and fisherman and it bothered him greatly when the herring and other groundfish stopped running.

Michael's first granddaughter coined his nickname, Mungy, since he'd monkey around, except she'd been unable to pronounce the word "monkey." The name was later used by all of his grandchildren and by his wife for her fleece clothing brand, Mungy Gear. His knack for tomfoolery wasn't the only notable thing about him. No matter what he put his mind to, he accomplished it with an astronomical amount of grit and passion. Despite his hardships, he remained tender, considerate and giving.

He appreciated a good debate and stood firm in his beliefs. That didn't stop him from staying humble and keeping an open mind to different perspectives. People knew Mike wouldn't water down the truth and came to him for his honesty. His headstrong nature inspired others and drove them to see their own inner strength. He spent his free time traveling with Ellen, building a fort with his grandchildren, getting irritated with crossword puzzles, and having deep lengthy conversations with those he held dear. In the end, he fought tooth and nail to continue living a full life.

His playful cheekiness endured through his illness. There was faith and clarity behind his beaming eyes which grew within his final days. This gave a sense that he'd pass gracefully and helped to ease our sorrows. It's impossible to put into words how adored Michael was. He will be remembered and fiercely missed by many.
A graveside service with Military Honors will be held later in the spring or summer. Anyone who wishes may donate in his memory to The Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine, P.O. Box 479, Lewiston, ME 04243.
