Timothy Allen Miller, Jr., six weeks old, was pronounced dead at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 1969, at Southern Lorain County Hospital, Wellington, Ohio. The baby was found unresponsive in his bed and taken to the hospital.

Dr. R. G. Thomas, pathologist at Elyria Memorial Hospital, Elyria, Ohio, said that the child died of natural causes, a victim of "crib death"--a term used when babies die unexpectedly in bed. Dr. Thomas noted that, tragically, "crib death" was not an uncommon occurrence.
