Escondido, CA --- Mariana passed away peacefully on Sunday in the comfort of her home and surrounded by her family.
Born in La Jolla, California and daughter of the late Henry D. and Carol Holt (Coman) she grew up in San Diego and graduated from UCLA in 1950 with a degree of Bachelor of Arts. While teaching in Germany she married US Army officer Jeffrey Barnard in 1959. Her children were born in Heidelberg, Virginia and Taiwan. Mariana continued her career as an educator at Knox, Sandberg, Angier and Marie Curie Elementary Schools.
Throughout Mariana's life, she enjoyed traveling. She was very involved in Cursillos in Christianity and participated in many churches over the years including St. John's of Chula Vista, St. Timothy's of Rancho Penasquitos and Christ the King of Poway. She was also an avid reader. Mariana enjoyed creative artistic endeavors. She will also be remembered for her sharp wit, sense of humor, sweet disposition and deep faith. Mariana was most proud of her family.
Mariana was preceded in death by her husband, Major Jeffrey Barnard in 2001; two brothers, Hank and Ira; and sister Alice Huisveld. She is survived by her daughter, Susan of Chula Vista, CA, son, Jeff (Jill Guidry) of Santa Rosa, CA, and son, Bill (Sue) of Escondido, CA; six grandchildren - Jackson, Simone, Dillon, Shay, Job and Anna; as well as 3 great-grandchildren - Shana, Ashton and Bryce; great- great-grandson Roman; and great-grandniece Kristin Givens, husband Branton Sr. and their two children Branton Jr. and Brooklyn.
A Celebration of Life service will be planned for a future date.
