Washington, IL - Raymond Earl Hoppenrath Sr., 80, of TidePointe, Hilton Head Island, S.C., formerly of Washington, died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at Life Care Center of Hilton Head.

Born May 11, 1922, in Brookfield to William C. and Carrie Degener Hoppenrath, he married Jean Simmons. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Raymond Jr. of Hagerstown, Md., James of Flushing, Mich., and William of Peoria; and one brother, William of Brookfield.

A Navy veteran, he served as a naval aviator and instrument flight instructor during World War II.

A member of Delta Upsilon fraternity, he received a degree in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University.

He had worked in sales and engineering in the construction equipment industry.

Cremation will be accorded. The Island Funeral Home and Crematory on Hilton Head Island is in charge of arrangements.
