COLEMAN Imogene Rushing, age 85, of Coleman, and a former longtime Odessa resident, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, in Coleman. The body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at Bell Cemetery in Palestine, Texas. Arrangements were made by Stevens Funeral Home of Coleman. She was born Imogene Bell on Aug. 26, 1923, in Loco, Okla., the daughter of Steven and Beatrice Pipkin Bell. She grew up in Gladewater, Texas, where she graduated from high school. On Sept. 28, 1940, she married L.D. "Buck" Rushing in Shreveport, La., and they celebrated 68 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 2008. During World War II, Imogene worked as a welder on Liberty Ships out of San Francisco. From 1946 to 2008, she and Buck lived in Odessa where they were members of the Calvary Baptist Church and the Jeans and Queens Square Dancing Club. She also served for many years as secretary for a bowling league in Odessa. After retirement, she and her husband traveled extensively. Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Allen and husband David of Humble, and Carolyn Stevens and husband Randy of Coleman; five grandchildren, Brandon Stevens of Odessa, Bryan Stevens of Fort Worth, Justin Allen of The Woodlands, Colin Allen and Stephanie Allen, both of Humble; two great-grandchildren, Dalton and Case Stevens of Odessa. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Fl. 17, Chicago, Ill., 60611-7633.
