Melvin Walker Lewis Jr. departed this earthly realm to enter Glory on October 5, 2022 at the age of 101 years. He was born June 28, 1921 in Cotton Plant, Arkansas, the son of Melvin Walker Lewis Sr. and Webel Molthu Lewis. He was raised in MIchigan City, Mississippi. During World War II, he relocated to Mobile, Alabama and worked at Brookley Air Force Base as a government employee. He retired from civil service in Warner Robbins, Georgia and returned to Mobile.
Melvin is preceded in death by his loving wife Hazel Juliet Henderson Lewis; parents Melvin Sr. and Webel; sisters Ellen Rainey and Mary Callicott Granger, both of Memphis, Tennessee.
He is survived by his beloved sons Harry (Cynthia) Lewis of Saraland, Alabama and Melvin Warren (Jean) Lewis of Somerville, Tennessee; cherished grandchildren Jason Lewis and Brittany (Ryan) Peckham; and many beautiful nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers of Covington Place of Satsuma, Alabama and Crowne Healthcare of Citronelle, Alabama for loving and caring for our father. Melvin will be interred Thursday, October 13 at 11:00 AM in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, located in Saraland.
