Mr. Reese St. Clair Poffenbarger, 62
well-known educator who resided at
10905 Coppermine Road near
Woodsboro, died at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday,
April 3, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in
Baltimore, after an illness of several
months. Born Jan. 6, 1917, at Meadow Brook
Farm near Mt. Pleasant, he was a son of
the late Reese S. and Maude Dutrow
Poffenbarger.

Surviving, besides his wife, Mrs.
Helen Neel Poffenbarger, are three
daughters, Mrs. Helen Cover of
Feagaville, Miss Jeannette Isabel Poffenbarger,
Greenville, S.C., and Miss
Anne Poffenbarger, Williamsburg, Va.;
three sons, William H. Poffenbarger and
John H. Poffenbarger, both of
Woodsboro, and Dr. Max M. Poffenbarger,
Walkersville; eight grandsons;
six sisters, Mrs. Hypatia George of
Lovettsville, Va., Mrs. Wilhelmina
Hartman of Harrisburg, Pa., Mrs. Hannah
Rodeffer of Vienna, Va., Mrs. Jeannette
Long of Joppatown, Mrs. Nancy
Grams of Brunswick and Miss Helen
Albaugh of Florida; and one brother,
Paul Albaugh, Urbana.

Mr. Poffenbarger received his BS
degree at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute
and completed advanced courses
at Western Maryland College and the
University of Maryland. He served
Frederick and Carroll Counties for 26
years as educator and administrator.
An active member of the Maryland
State Teachers Association, he was also
active and a past president of the
Frederick County Teachers Association
He was president of the Maryland Vocational
Agricultural Teachers Association,
was an honorary Chapter Farmer
of Future Farmers of America, and held
the Honorary Farm Degree.

In addition to teaching, he owned and
operated a dairy farm near Woodsboro.
He was a Master Mason of Clinton
Lodge No. 75, AF&A Masons, Amherst,
Va.
