Nicholas was born in Cumberland or North Yarmouth, but lived and farmed in New Sharon all his life. He married three times, first to Maria Foord (the stone says Mariah but all other records say Maria) and then Eliza Webber. By each wife he had seven children. His third marriage ended in divorce after three years.
It appears to me that he may have been a descendant of Hatevil Hall of Dover, NH and Falmouth, Maine, and that his first wife, Maria Foord, was a descendant of several Pilgrim families.
An interesting note, because Nicholas died without leaving a will, there is a very detailed inventory of his possessions, details of his heirs, and itemized expenses such as the digging of his grave, although the document does not list where the grave was, or even the exact date of his death. It was probated February, 1865, and other online records indicate he died in January, 1865. [Ref. Ancestry.com]
