The son of Cyrus and Mary (McCoy) Hamilton, Will grew up in rural Decatur Co., IN. He married Euphemia Donnell in that place Jan. 24, 1854.

Will farmed some 1700 acres in Fugit Twp., Decatur Co., IN. He also engaged in the manufacture of drainage tiles in that place, being an active member of the IN Tile Maker's Association. He served as Decatur Co. Commissioner for two terms, and was a member of the Clarksburg Presbyterian Church. Early in their marriage, Will purchased a piano for his wife, Euphemia, it being the first in the township. A portion of his obituary follows:

"William McCoy Hamilton, an aged pioneer and highly esteemed citizen of Clarksburg, died Saturday morning at eleven o'clock......

"He was born Nov. 26, 1822, on the homestead one-half mile south of Kingston.....and was at the time of his death, the oldest living native born citizen of Decatur county. He was the eldest of the family of Cyrus and Mary McCoy Hamilton of whom three brothers survive: Orlando, Chester and Everett.

"He was married to Euphemia Donnell, daughter of Luther A. and Jane Braden Donnell in 1854.....The family was blessed with five children: Enrie, Grace, Luther, Myrta and Blanche, of whim Mrs. Enrie Fee, Luther and Mrs. Blanche Lyons survive.

".......From 1868 to 1874 he served as County Commissioner......He was for several years prior to 1897 President of the First National Bank of this city......He united with the Presbyterian church in his early life.....

"Funeral services were conducted at the home at 1 p.m. and at Kingston at 3 p.m. Monday by the deceased's nephew, Rev. Harry Nyce, of Peru, assisted by Rev. Benjamin Nyce, of Tallalega, Ala., and Rev. C. R. Adams, of Kingston, and the remains laid to rest in the Kingston cemetery."
