Dorothy Carolyn Carrell, 82, passed away in a Sioux City, Iowa hospital on Saturday, 13 April 2019.
Dorothy was born in the Climbing Hill area of Iowa on 6 December 1936, to Myron G. and Esther (Whiteman) Matheny. She grew up in the Climbing Hill area and attended Climbing Hill High School.
On 7 June 1953, Dorothy married Marvin D. Carrell in Sioux City. The couple moved to California in 1962 and remained there until 1970 when they returned to Sioux City. Dorothy worked for Countryside Nursing Home in the housekeeping department for many years and retired in the late 1990s.
Her hobbies included gardening, reading, playing Scrabble, attending Bible study and spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving are her children, Debra Carrell of Sioux City, Randall Carrell and his fiancee, Rita Whitmore of Sioux City, Laura Auen of Sioux City, and Rebecca Kelly (Joe) of Elizabethtown, Ky.; 11 grandchildren, Jessica, Jed, Clifford, Mandy, Kevin, Dustin, Amanda, Kendra, Aaron, Zachary and Morgan; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her sons, David Carrell and Dwaine Carrell; and her brothers, Donald Matheny and Warren Matheny.
Dorothy married Marvin D. Carrell on June 7, 1953 in Sioux City. In 1962, the couple moved to California and lived there until moving back to the area in 1970. She worked for Countryside Nursing Home in the housekeeping department for many years, retiring in the late 1990s.
Her hobbies included gardening, reading, playing Scrabble, attending Bible study and spending time with her family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are Dorothy's children, Randall Dean Carrell and fiance', Rita Whitmore, Debra Carrell, and Laura Auen, all of Sioux City; and Rebecca (Joe) Kelly, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; eleven grandchildren, Amanda, Aaron, Clifford, Dustin, Jed, Jessica, Mandy Leigh Carrell, Morgan, Kevin, Kendra, and Zachary; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her brothers, Donald Matheny and Warren Matheny, as well as her sons, David Carrell and Dwaine Carrell.
Friends were invited to call from 4 to 8 P.M., on Wednesday, 17 April 2019 at the Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes' Morningside Chapel, where funeral services began at 10 A.M., on Thursday, 18 April, followed by interment in the Westfork Township Cemetery, Climbing Hill, Iowa.
