Former musician and concert mistress
Jeannette R. (Holden) Chase, 92. a former professional musician, died Wednesday [19 May 1982] in White River Junction. Vt.
Ms. Chase lived in the Brookside Nursing Home, but was a longtime resident of Sharon before that - from 1921 through 1967.
Born in Mansfield, Ms. Chase graduated from Mansfield High School and the New England Conservatory of Music. She was a special student at the now-defunct High School for Practical Arts in Boston.
In her working life, Ms. Chase was a professional musician and a concert mistress with the Concert Orchestra, one of Boston's first, all-women orchestras.
She belonged to the Sharon Civic Orchestra, which she helped found and served as concert mistress for many years, was a soloist with the Sharon' Community Chorus and the Medfleld Community Orchestra, She was a charter member of the Sharon Art Group, the Canton Art Assn., an honorary member of the Sharon Garden Club, and a member for more than 50 years of the First Congregational Church in Sharon.
Ms. Chase leaves a son, Richard H. Chase, of Falmouth, Maine; three daughters, Virginia Earle of Fryeburg. Maine, Pauline Roos of New London. N.H., and Jeanne Whitney of Hillsboro, N.H.; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, North Main street, Sharon. Burial will be at Rock Ridge Cemetery, Sharon.
