Civil War records of 42nd Missouri Infantry, company A, Union Army show Private William S. Dail. This unit was organized in Macon county, Missouri in September 1864. The unit was in Columbia Missouri; St Louis Missouri; and then in December moved to Kentucky & Tennessee. They defended Nashville & Chattanooga railroad that winter and remained in Tennessee until June, 1865, after the end of the Civil War. William Dail moved to Fulton, Kansas after the Civil War and was a merchant/store keeper in Fulton for many years. William & Lucy had three sons born at Fulton: Dennis William (1878-1942); Edward Timothy (1880-1941); and Leigh D. (1887-1963).
