Arvagene Haun Sparling was born on March 11, 1915, in Noble, Oklahoma. Arvagene was the oldest of seven daughters. She moved to California in 1936, where she met and married David Sparling. They were married 44 years. Arvagene moved to Coeur d'Alene in May of 1999 from Texas.

Arvagene was an accomplished artist, particularly enjoying oil painting and china painting. She was a master gardener, a wonderful award-winning cook and baker, and a talented seamstress. Arvagene also loved to go fishing and was quite a card shark as well! She attended Candlelight Christian Fellowship and enjoyed her women's bible studies until her health declined.

Arvagene was preceded in death by her husband, David Sparling, her daughter, Marsha Sparling Bowlin, and her infant son, Ronnie.

She is survived by her son, Darel Sparling and wife Kim of Hayden; her daughter, Lois Sparling Witty of Coeur d'Alene; along with 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren, living locally, Texas, Oregon, Colorado and California. Extended family members and her sisters reside in Oklahoma and California.

Her family nicknamed her "Great," which suited her perfectly.
She was indeed a great lady, who dearly loved Jesus and touched many lives.
