According to the Commemorative Biographical Record of Washington County, Pennsylvania (Chicago: J. H. Beers & Co., 1893): "William Allison Conklin, born March 28, 1840, [to William and Catharine Ross Conklin] received a common-school education, and taught a number of terms. He attended a commercial college, and then chose a farmer's life. He has always been a hard worker, and is possessed of more than ordinary intellect and culture. A genial disposition, which is only found in those who are temperate, characterizes him. He never uses strong drinks or tobacco; never has been known to swear an oath under the most trying circumstances; has always been kind to the poor, true to his word and firm for his rights. His widowed mother, kind, gentle and affectionate, lives with him on the old place, which has been handed down from father to son for three generations. He has been a member of the M. E. Church for over twenty years, and has served as superintendent of Sunday-school, steward and trustee. He is a Democrat, who seeks not office, but is always found working for the man best fitted for the office. No one rejoiced more heartily than he did over the results of the elections of November 8, 1892." [when Grover Cleveland was elected president.]

An article published in the Shepherdstown Register [West Virginia] on December 17, 1896 reported "much surprise was created in Shepherdstown Tuesday evening [12/15/1896] by the announcement of the marriage of Miss Lillian Lee Chapline and Mr. Allison William Conklin. Miss Chapline is the daughter of our venerable townsman, Mr. William R. Chapline, and the groom is a well-to-do farmer of Prosperity, Washington County, Pa., not far from Pittsburg. The marriage had been kept a profound secret, and it was not until the afternoon of the wedding day that even a hint leaked out; and few persons knew of it until the ceremony was over…It is said that the romance was begun about a year ago, when Mr. Conklin and Miss Chapline met at Harpers Ferry. He spent several days here the past summer, and the details for the happy event were later arranged through correspondence."

The Conklin's lived in Prosperity, Morris Township, Washington County, Pa. and had two children Cinderella Jane, born 1897, and Benjamin, born 1898.

Allison Conklin died 9 June 1911 at age 71. He is buried at Prosperity Cemetery. His widow died in 1933 and is buried in Charlotte, N.C. (Information provided by Michael I.Chapline)
