Funeral services for Thomas B. Kaufman, 83, were held at the Jones & Casey Funeral Home 10 April 2000. Mr. Kaufman passed away 6 April 2000 at Steele Memorial Hospital. Thomas was born 31 July 1916 in Coffeyville, Kansas, a son of Lawrence W. and Ollie Hooper Kaufman. He grew up there and graduated from Field Kindley High School in 1937. He married Vinita K. Jaggers on 26 August 1938 in Coffeyville, Kansas. He began working for the Sinclair Oil Refinery in the spring of 1942. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy on 29 February 1944 and served during World War II. He received his discharge 15 December 1945 and returned to Coffeyville. Thomas' oldest son had asthma and they were advised to move to a more appropriate climate. The family moved to Chicago in 1948. They made their home in Wyoming for a short time in 1951 and later lived in Anaconda, Montana and Arizona. They moved to the Salmon area in 1952 where Thomas began a new career as a rancher. He was employed by the Old Beam Plant in 1968, and worked there until he retired. Mrs. Kaufman died 24 November 1981 and Thomas continued to make his home in Salmon. He enjoyed wood working and built furniture and small wooden items for people in the valley. He is survived by his two sons, Thomas J.(Mary) Kaufman and David L. Kaufman; and his grandson Thomas Bodine Kaufman, all of Salmon. Burial was in the Salmon Cemetery
