Hazel Byrd Johnson, age 87, died Tuesday morning in Cary. Born October 14, 1920 in Harnett County to the late Bennie F. and Laura Penny Byrd she was the widow of Edwin Hugh Johnson and was preceded in death by a granddaughter. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Hopewell Free Will Baptist Church, of which she was a member, with the Rev. Scott Casey and the Rev. Jim Waggoner officiating. Burial will follow in the Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens.Surviving are her son, Hugh F. Johnson and wife, Maria of Cary; daughter, Vivian J. Lamm and husband, Ivey of Lucama; sister, Brookie B. Pope of Smithfield; two granddaughters and two great grandchildren.
