Phillip A. Owen was born after his father's death in 1853 of Yellow Fever. His mother, Margaret Murphy Owen, moved to Nashville after his death to be closer to family and later remarried John Harding Jr Dec 19, 1856 in a quiet ceremony as this was a second marriage for both of them. Some time between 1870 and 1880, Phillip became paralyzed, and in 1897 was institutionalized in what was then called the Eastern State Hospital until his death in 1921. He was brought back for burial in Nashville and is laid to rest next to his mother.
