Patricia Ann Whitis McGarity was born on April 27, 1936 in Madrid, New Mexico to Robert Benjamin Whitis and Annie Oletha Burton. She passed away on September 30, 2022 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers.
Pat was preceded in death by her father and mother, her two sisters Bobbie Whitis Stoker and Jeanne Whitis Moore, and her oldest daughter, Mollie Conroy.
Pat's family moved to the Dallas area in 1942. Pat graduated early from Adamson High School in Oak Cliff and married Thomas Wayne McGarity at age 17 on October 3, 1953. The two were married for 69 years. They had five children, 13 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Pat worked as a secretary to a Vice President of Foremost Dairy until 1960, when she and Tom moved the family to Plano. She was a wonderful homemaker and was very involved in her community. Even while raising five kids, she was always active in PTA and served as a room mom. She was a Girl Scout Leader for many years, served at the First Presbyterian Church as a Youth Leader and loved to sing in her church choir.
Tom and Pat built their Allen home in 1973 for their 20th anniversary, but in 1974, the family moved to Fayetteville, Georgia when Tom was transferred for work. In later years, Pat moved her mother into the Fayetteville home so she could care for her.

Pat believed in self-growth. She had many hobbies throughout the years that she actively developed. She was a talented oil painter, but even before that, she tole painted, did needlework, made ceramics, and then later became an avid tennis player. She also continued to serve in her Georgia community as a Meals on Wheels volunteer.
In 1996, the McGaritys moved back to their Allen, Texas home when Tom retired. They enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time with family. They were members of the Suncreek United Methodist Church.
A viewing was held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.
