Doretta was born in San Francisco, California, to Morton and Charlotte Meyer, and grew up in The City. In 1957, she married Theodor "Ted" Thomsen. She studied elementary education at San Francisco State University and graduated in 1961. She and her family were baptized at St. Philip Lutheran Church in Dublin. She loved studying the Bible and traveling to places such as Israel and Germany. She retired in 2008 from St. Philip after 40 years as the church secretary. Doretta is survived by a son, daughter, and son-in-law; a grandson and granddaughter; and a sister. She is buried at Woodlawn in Colma, next to her husband, son Craig, and parents.
