Betty L. Hadfield Tipton, 86, of Greenville, S.C., and formerly of Downingtown, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at her son's residence in Greenville, S.C.

She was the loving wife of the late Isaac Tipton Sr., with whom she had shared 60 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 2000.

Born in Downingtown, she was the daughter of the late George Sr. and Ethel Hickman Hadfield.

She attended Downingtown High School and worked for 26 years in the layer cake frozen food department of Pepperidge Farms in Downingtown, retiring in 1982.

Betty had just moved to South Carolina in October 2009 to be cared for by her son, John, and his wife, Barbara.

She loved to garden and enjoyed crocheting doilies in her spare time. She loved her cats, Molly and Rusty, and especially loved her boys.

She is survived by her sons, Ronald W. Tipton and partner, Bill Kelly, of Milton, Del., Isaac Tipton Jr. of Downingtown, and John L. Tipton and wife, Barbara, of Greenville, S.C. She is also survived by her sister, Jeanette Hickman Reynolds of Downingtown, Ruth Hadfield Steidler and her husband, Clyde "Spike," of Honey Brook; and stepsister, Mary Moreland Shank of Gap; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her niece, Elaine Tyson of Thorndale; and nephews, Randall Reynolds of Coatesville, George Reynolds Jr. of Parkesburg, Bruce Reynolds of Downingtown, Jack Tinder of Florida and Charles Tinder of Nevada.

She was predeceased by her sister, Grace Wagner; and brothers, George Hadfield Jr. and Randall Hadfield.

A funeral service was held on Monday, Sept. 20, at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, Downingtown.

Interment was in Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery, Downingtown.
