George W. Washburn, age 72 years and six months, passed away at his home in Lakeside at 1:00 am Feb. 21, after a short illness. Pneumonia was the immediate cause of his death.
Funeral services were held at Little Stone church at Lakeside, Sunday, February 23, at 1:30 pm with Rev. Barnum, Chelan, officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the local Fraternal cemetery at Chelan.
Pall bearers were Harry Shenefelt, Willard Van Meter, G. L. Richard, Clyde Davis, Thos. Clawson and J. H. James.
Geo. W. Washburn was born near Marshall, Clark County, Ill., Aug. 18, 1863. Apr. 2, 1893, he was united in marriage to Lucy R. Rood and to this union were born three daughters, Mrs. Henry Beckman, Chelan; Mrs. Donald Gordon, Manson, and one daughter passing away in infancy.
The two daughters and four grandchildren, Ruth Lucile Beckman, Lawrence, Earl and Gene Gordon survive him.
His wife passed away five days later.
Mr. Washburn came to Lakeside in 1914 and since that time has served as cook numerous times in the forestry camps, was justice of the peace and police judge since 1931 and custodian of the Lakeside school for the past four years.
The deceased was a loving husband and father, a staunch and up right citizen, an observer and up-holder of the law, an admirer of flowers, one who always had his hand under the arm of the weak and the afflicted and a lover of children.
His friendly greeting and his cherry smile will be missed by all and especially by the school children.
In the death of Mr. and Mrs. Washburn, the community has lost two worthy and beloved citizens.
