Minerva was the daughter of Wesley and Mary Elizabeth Coontz Cole from Ohio with siblings: Misouria, Mahlon, Mary Ellen, William, Isaac, and Charles. Hers was a farm family living first in Shelby County and then moving to Wood County. She married Charles Twining on 2 June 1858 in Hancock County, Ohio, and they had Emma Elizabeth, Charles Wesley, Clara Belle , and Joseph Ellsworth. Charles Sr. died in the Civil War. Minerva then married Allen Austen on 12 July 1865 in Wood County, and they had William Warner (1867). The couple divorced shortly thereafter. Minerva then married Thomas Lewis Roderick on 4 July 1869 in Haskins, Ohio, and they had David, Edward Franklin, Emma Elizabeth, and John Wesley. Thomas adopted William. The family moved to Deerfield. Michigan where Thomas died. Minerva died from senility and arterio-sclerosis at the age of 13 days past her seventy-seventh birthday.
