At Rhinebeck, by the Rev. Mr. M'Murray, on the 27th of January, Inst. SAMUEL JONES, Jr. Esq. to Miss CATHARINE SCHUYLER, daughter of Philip I. Schuyler, Esq.
******************
An article in the September 6, 1983 Poughkeepsie Journal discusses the acquisition by the Adriance Memorial Library of some 120 letters written between Catharine and her husband Samuel Jones from 1816, when they married, until 1829, when she died at the age of 36. (Please note that the article later refers incorrectly to her death on Nov. 20, 1839)
*************
NOTE: there is a discrepancy in her date of death and the date of birth of her youngest daughter.
The 1882 book "History of Duchess County" by James H. Smith refers to her death on November 20, 1829, and an article by Dr. J. Wilson Poucher in the 1929 Dutchess County Historical Society Yearbook states that her gravestone in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery gives her date of death as November 20, 1829.
But the gravestone of her daughter Catharine Schuyler Jones, also buried in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, gives her date of birth as December 10, 1829. However, that date may be off by one year, as a lengthy obituary in the July 12, 1919 edition of The Churchman ("A National Church Weekly") states that she was born on December 10, 1828.
