OBITUARY:
Alvin T. McCormick, 87, a resident of 1808 NE Madison Ave. for the last 11 years, and long associated with music circles in Peoria, died at his home at 10:10 p.m. yesterday. He had been ill since February.
Born at Vincennes, Ind., Aug. 5, 1877, he was a son of William R. and Martha Lane McCormick, and married Ida Mary Bezy at Vincennes, Ind., Oct. 10, 1906. They had resided in Peoria since 1923, and celebrated their golden wedding anniversary here in 1956. A salesman for Keck-Gonnerman Farm Machinery Co. for 22 years, Mr. McCormick retired 25 years ago.
Long active in Peoria Musicians Union 26, AFM, Mr. McCormick was a former president of the organization, and had his own brass band in earlier years. He played the coronet. baritone and violin, and only last year, directed five of the recording and transcription concerts of the Musicians Union. He formerly served as manager of the Peoria Municipal Band for a number of years besides directing and performing with various bands over the years. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Hugh N. McCormick of Monica and James A. McCormick, city hall reporter for the Peoria Journal Star; one brother, Ed McCormick of Vincennes, Ind.; one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Wilkens of Naples Park, Fla.; and five grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Wright & Salmon Mortuary.
