Velma was born in Hays and raised in Hutchinson, Kansas, the youngest of six girls of Clara and Aegedius Pfannenstiel.
She graduated from Saint Teresa's High School in 1958 and married Nicholas Joseph Seitz on September 12, 1959. She and Nick moved to Rowayton, Connecticut in 1967 and raised their two sons, Bradley and Gregory there.
Velma was a devoted wife and mother, spending countless hours practicing her golf clap or shivering in hockey rinks. She learned how to make ravioli from her Italian mother-in-law and spent days preparing the family favorite for holidays. She enjoyed the Saratoga racetrack, Vegas casinos, and annual trips to DisneyWorld. She kept myriad collections, including Hummel figurines, Hallmark ornaments, and Beanie Babies. She and Nick also appreciated fine art and decorated their home with original paintings and sculptures.
Velma and Nick moved to Kennebunk in 2016. As their sphere got smaller due to limited mobility and pandemic restrictions, Velma valiantly clung to her independence and autonomy.
She cared for Nick, endeared herself to neighbors and residence staff, and escaped to buy scratch tickets at every opportunity. She was eager to share her good fortune and quick wit, and will be remembered for her generosity and her genuine cackle.
Velma is survived by her son Bradley, his wife Heidi and their three children Brian (married to Kirsten Beaudry), Luke and Margaret; her son Gregory and his three children Nicholas, Emma and Isabela; her sister Mary and her husband Ralph; and many nieces and nephews.
She will be interred at Memorial Park Cemetery on a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society. In the care of Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services – Portland
