Sonny was born September 1, 1942 in Blythe, California to Hollis Weldon and Emmie Earline Bonds.

He attended and graduated from New Diana High School , Diana, Texas where he was a standout athlete.

He went on to receive an undergraduate and masters degree in education from East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas .
During his college years he met his wife June and they married on June 4, 1966. Early in their marriage Sonny would serve in the United States Navy, including a tour in Vietnam. After the Navy they settled in East Texas. There Sonny began a career in education that spanned 34 years. He taught and coached at New Diana, Kilgore and Spring Hill, ISD.

In the early hours of September 29, 2022 Sonny lost his 10 year battle with Parkinson's disease.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, daughter Kellie Jo, and sister Carolyn Hawkins.

Sonny is survived by his wife of 56 years June Bonds, their two children Shannon McIntosh (Phil) and Jonathan Bonds (Katherine), his sister Judy Bonds Lopez (Kyle), five grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life service was held on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 11:30 am at Elmira Chapel Presbyterian Church located at 3505 Elmira Drive Longview, Texas 75605.
Visitation begin at 10:30 a.m. and the service followed at 11:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers. please consider a donation to " Because I Care" P.O. Box 6525 Longview, Texas 75608, an organization dear to his heart of which he was a board member or to a charity of your choice.

I want everyone who reads this to know that Sonny Bonds was one of the best Texas Longhorn fans that ever lived. He was also my friend for life.
