Calvin Wray Bismarck, 90, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at his home in White Mountain Lake. A memorial service was held June 21 at the White Mountain Lake Community Baptist Church.

He was born Aug. 2, 1925, in Joliet, Ill., to Clinton Orr Bismarck and Bernice Eva Krueger Bismarck.

Calvin was a beloved friend to all who ever met him. His kindness was known to all of his friends.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II on a destroyer escort vessel. He was also a member of the VFW.

Calvin lived in Lockport, Ill., until about 33 years ago when he came to Arizona.

He was a man who enjoyed building things; he was a lifelong member of the Carpenter's Union as a master carpenter.

He was an active member of the Congregational Church in Illinois, and then an active member of the Baptist church in White Mountain Lake.

Survivors include his daughter, Kara Bismarck Thurbush; three stepchildren, Maryann Olen, Jeanne Grommon and Virginia Kay Carlson; one grandchild, Jon Belair; three nieces, Mary Lynn Mattson, Debi Bismarck and Lisa Boutwell; and one nephew, Keane Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by two wives, Katherine Bismarck and Genevieve DeYoung; and his loving companion, Janetta Payne.
