Betty Maxine Riggs Mieth
May 16, 1926 - July 15, 2018
Betty passed away July 15, 2018 after a brief illness, surrounded by her family. She was born May 16, 1926 in Vancouver, to Sarah and Jay Robinson and lived most of her life in Portland. She married my father Orville Eugene Riggs in 1951 and was a faithful and loving wife to him until he died in 1981. She had two sons, Jim and Bob Riggs. She married Richard Mieth in 1988 and was widowed again in 2011. She retired from Safeco Insurance where she was an insurance adjuster in 1986. She was a sweet mom and a loyal wife with a fine sense of humor and a playful spirit. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, fine food and friendship. She was an amazing cook and taught us much. She moved to Spokane two years ago to be nearer to her family. Bob and Danielle got to spend many hours with her over the past two years. Her vision and hearing weren't so great these last years, but her wit and intellect and capacity to love was intact until the end. It was her time and she was ready to go but we will miss her dearly. Her parents; her son, Jim Riggs; her dear brother, James St. Clair; and her two husbands preceded her in death. She is survived by Bob and Danielle Riggs; her stepdaughter, Alyson Mieth Meyers; grandchildren, John Riggs, Timothy Riggs, Sara Hensley, Laura M. Riggs; and three great-grandchildren. There will be a family memorial service in the fall.
