MR. EDWARD CHALMERS MacKAY, SCOTSTOWN.

SWEETSBURG, Que., Jan. 9 -- There passed away at an early hour on Saturday morning, December 27th, 1930, Mr. Edward Chalmers MacKay at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Gault Lomas, and Mr. Lomas.

Mr. MacKay suffered quite a severe paralytic stroke on Friday, December 195hy from which he scarcely became conscious, except at certain very short intervals. He was in his 81st year, but very well preserved and very stately in appearance.

Prayers were conducted at the house on Sunday afternoon at one o'clock by the rector of the Anglican Church, Rev. F. T. Norman, B.A., Lth., BD., after which the procession proceeded by train via Adamsville and Sherbrooke to Scotstown, where the funeral service was held at the United Church on Monday, December 29th.

Rev. Mrs. Robertson conducted the service and took for his text Job 5:26 "Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in his season." The speaker said that this was a promise made to Job as a reward of his faith and loyalty, and stated that there was something grand and glorious in the death of an aged Christian. Mr. Robertson then spoke of what a saint was ripe for. Leaving this world, entering into the rest provided by God for His people, also ready for the day of Judgement and its consequences. Happy, thrice happy are those who, after a life spent in the service of Christ, come to the grave in a full age.

The hymns sung were: "The Lord Is My Shepherd, " "What A Friend We have in Jesus, " and "Pease, Perfect Peace, " all favorites of the departed.

The remains were accompanied to Scotstown by his two sons, Messrs. Allan and Donald MacKay, of Montreal; two daughters, Mrs. Gault Lomas, of Sweetsburg, and Mrs. Cecil Wallbridge, of Ottawa, Ont., and Mrs. Allan MacKay, of Montreal.

The deceased was a highly esteemed citizen of Sweetsburg for many years, he was a faithful member of the United Church and was always in his place on the Sabbath Day and at the mid-week service. The many beautiful floral tributes were also silent token of the love and esteem in which he was held.

He was laid to rest in the Gould Cemetery beside his wife, who predeceased him nine years ago on January 5th.

The bearers were Messrs. John McDonald, A. M. McKenzie, Wm. Murray, Charlie Bennett, Willie Taylor and Joe Barnes.

He leaves to mourn his loss, two daughters and two sons mentioned above, one brother, Dannie MacKay, of Sherbrooke, and one sister, Mrs. Walter Sherman, of Vancouver and a host of other relatives and friends.
