Marilyn Jean Boyle Cater passed away peacefully in her longtime home on Spanaway Lake September 21, 2022.

Marilyn was born on December 6, 1933 in Tacoma, Washington. She had a wonderful life growing up on 1010 South State Street with her parents, Harry and Violet Hull, playing kick the can and other old-fashioned games with her siblings and the neighborhood kids. A proud graduate of Stadium High School class of 1951, Marilyn stayed connected to Stadium as she helped organize and attended reunions over the years. In 1954 she married her high school sweetheart, Ray Boyle, and they began their married life together in her beloved home on Spanaway Lake where they raised their four children and enjoyed life together for 27 years when Ray passed away at the early age of 47. Eight years later, Marilyn had the amazing good fortune to meet the second love of her life Burnell Cater. They married in 1989 and enjoyed 32 years of happy times together until he passed away at the age of 86.

Throughout her first marriage, Marilyn was able to stay at home while raising their children. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and even reupholstering furniture to keep the house looking fresh and inviting. With Mt. Rainier towering in the distance, the lake was her constant source of joy. She delighted in all of its creatures: ducks, geese, blue herons, eagles, otters and even those pesky beavers that ate her willow tree.

When she had to readjust her life due to her first husband's early death, Marilyn found her professional calling as a go-getter real estate agent. With her magnetic personality and boundless energy, Marilyn thrived in selling real estate while also investing in rental properties. By the time she and Burnell were married, the two of them had created a lifestyle that allowed them to choose early retirement. Off they would go, traveling in their motorhome. Coast to coast and north to south, they bounded all over the USA with him as the driver and her sitting high up in the passenger seat looking out over the world. You couldn't find a happier couple —meeting new people and experiencing the world together. If anyone were ever to ask Marilyn what she believed the secret to happiness, her response was always the same, "Love everyone."

Surviving her are daughter Margie Hoffman, sons Cleve (Pam) Boyle, Dan (Jason) Boyle, and Dick (Joni) Boyle; grandchildren Carolyn (Micah) Gilman, George (Karen) Hoffman, Joseph Hoffman, Jennifer McKay, Sean Boyle, Michelle Boyle, Sara (Christian) Vannoy and great grandchildren: Emma, Maggie, Tim, and Tessa. She is also survived by stepchildren Cindy (Bruce) Robison and Sherry Duncan, 7 step grandchildren and 11 step great-grandchildren, and by her brother, Phillip (Margarite) Hull.

Preceding her in death are her first husband Ray Boyle, second husband Burnell Cater, her son-in-law Timothy Hoffman, stepchildren Terry Cater and Karen Cater as well as her parents and 3 siblings.

A funeral service will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home's Garden Chapel on September 29th, 2022 at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery 5212 S 70th St, Tacoma, WA 98467.
