Dorothy was born in Staten Island, NY and grew up in Perth Amboy, NJ. She graduated from Perth Amboy High School.
She worked. for S&S Whites, Staten Island, NY.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and was loved by all who knew her.
Mrs. Barcellona was a parishioner of St James R.C. Church in Woodbridge where she was an officer with St James Parent Teacher Association while her children attended St James Elementary School.
She was a County Committee Person in Woodbridge for many years and a member of the Woodbridge Democratic Organization.
She was a member of the Woodbridge Police Wives Organization while her husband served with the Woodbridge Police Department. She also was a member of the AARP and the Woodbridge Senior Citizens.
Mrs. Barcellona was a member of the "Shawl" Ministry of ST James Church, she loved to crochet and made afghans for many family and friends and also donated afghans to various organizations and she loved doing word find puzzles. She was also an avid Yankees Fan.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Nazareth "Bud" Barcellona in 1993; her parents, George and Carolena (Kaelin) Merkler; her son, Anthony in 2004; her loving sister, Loretta Bucciante in 1995; and a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Barcellona in 2000. She was survived by and will sadly be missed by her seven children, George of Fairview PA, John and his wife Donna of Woodbridge, Father Thomas Pastor of Our Lady of Grace Church, Somerdale NJ, Linda Ann of Woodbridge with whom she resided, Edward and his wife Caroline of Iselin, James "Jay" and his wife Colleen of Sewaren, Peter of Port Reading, and a daughter-in-law, Valerie Barcellona of Fort Meyers FL; fifteen grandchildren, Katrina Barcellona Calzat, Jessica, Nicholas, Anthony, Amy, Ashley, Adam, Karen, Michael, Brianna, Julianna, Nazareth, Sarah, Anthony, Alyssa; one great-grandchild, Nathan Calzat; and several nieces and nephews, Carol Goetz, Jean Furman, Jack Furman, Joan Napolean, Joseph Testa, Anthony Testa, Patti Giovenazzo, and Diane Wuestefeld.
Funeral services held Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at 10:00am, from the Leon J. Gerity Funeral Home, 411 Amboy Avenue (RT 35), Woodbridge, NJ, followed by a 10:30am Mass of Christian Burial from St James R.C. Church with entombment following at St James Mausoleum.
