OBITUARY

SR. Lawrence Jean Donahue R.S.M. (Mary Ellen Donahue), 88, went to be with her Lord early Monday, April 15, 2002 at Mercy Care Center in Omaha. Sr. was born October 4, 1913, the first of eight children born to Eugene and Theresa (Dugan) Donahue of O'Connor. She attended school at St. Joseph Academy and graduated in 1931.

After she prepared herself for teaching music in the secondary schools, she taught in Brayton, Nebraska for three years. After hearing the call from God, she entered the novitiate of the Sisters of Mercy in Council Bluffs, Iowa on September 8, 1936 and received her final vows in 1942. As a Sister of Mercy, she continued teaching music in Kansas City/Joplin area, Omaha and Sacramento, Calif. She celebrated her 50th jubilee in 1986 and retired to Mount St. Joseph in Portland, Oregon where she served as organist for the M.S.J. community.

Three years ago Sr. returned to her "home", Mercy Villa in Omaha, and renewed old friendships and making new ones. Two weeks ago she fell and broke her hip and never recovered. Besides her parents, she was preceded by brothers, Lawrence, Edward, Eugene and sister, Catherine Leary. She is survived by Dan Donahue, Salem, OR., Loretta Brown, Madera, CA., and Monica Boucher, Santa Clara, CA., and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 19, 2002 at the Mercy Villa Chapel in Omaha, arrangements by the Sisters of Mercy.
