Don R. Cloyde, 82-year-old rural Vinita resident, passed away early Friday, September 16, 2022, at the Journey Home in Bartlesville. He was born on January 17, 1940, near his now rural Vinita home, to William Ray and Opal F. (Hoover) Cloyde. Don was a graduate of Will Rogers High School in Tulsa, where he was an outstanding basketball point guard and played on three state championship teams. He lettered four years in track and basketball while in high school, he later attended and played basketball for NEO A&M College in Miami. Don served his country in the United States Air Force from November 1961 to September 1965, he also played basketball in the Air Force. He worked in construction many years in the Tulsa and northeast Oklahoma. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, training bird dogs, he had some dogs that were trial champions. In 2005, he started raising and training quarter horses, and that became a passion for him. Don was a member of Cowboy Junction.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Doris (Cloyde) Raney, and a brother, David Cloyde.
The family includes his two sons, Shane Cloyde and wife Dayna of Adair, Chris Cloyde and wife Kathy of Broken Arrow, two grandson's, Tyler Ray Cloyde and wife Lora of Greenwood, Arkansas, Jacob Alexander Cloyde of Norman, great-grandchildren, Luke Steven Cloyde, Drew Ray Cloyde, Lily Renee Cloyde, numerous other relatives, and friends.
