John Christian Brawner, 93, passed away Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, in Franklin. He was a longtime resident of Franklin.
He was born July 12, 1914, in McKinney (Lincoln County), KY. His parents were Jerry Brawner and Rosie (Kittrell) Brawner. He married Mildred (Hance) Brawner on March 1, 1957. She preceded him in passing.
Survivors include four nieces, Joan and husband Charles Woodhull, Mavis Hogue, Geraldine and husband James Speas, and Betty Stoddard; a nephew, Jerry Hogue; 24 great-nieces and -nephews; 37 great-great-nieces and -nephews; and eight great-great-great-nieces and -nephews.
He was preceded in passing by his parents; his wife, Mildred; two brothers, Edward and Samuel Brawner; and two sisters, Effie Russell and Dixie Hogue.
John attended school in Morgan County, Tenn. He was employed by Inland Container Corp. in Indianapolis for 35 years, retiring Jan. 1, 1978. After retirement, John was a woodworker, creating grandfather clocks in his woodworking shop at home. John was a charter member of New Life Baptist Church in Franklin and helped start and build the church. He was a life member of the Paperworkers Union.
The Rev. Rick Henry will conduct a service at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. (U.S. 31 North), Franklin. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
