Corey Garriott, 38 of Casper passed away on Friday, September 2, 2022. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, September 16, 2022, at 1458 17 Mile Road.

Corey David Garriott was born in Casper, Wyoming on November 2, 1983 to Charles David Garriott and Rose Mary Wiggins. He grew up in the Casper area and had spent the last two years as a resident of the Wind River Reservation.

He worked for S&L Construction as a flagger and pilot car driver.

Corey enjoyed spending time with family, friends, terrorizing, drawing, and tattooing. He was talented in his artistic ways and collected "junk artist" items. He was always working to improve his re-wire speakers in his car and listening to music.

He is survived by his girlfriend, Heather Marie Friday; mother, Rose Mary Fadness; daughter, Karmela Jade Asheim; Heather's sons, Shane Schone and Spencer Schone; adopted mother, Rosemary Montoya; sisters, Stephanie Teakell, Belem Montoya, Magdalena Montoya, Chezrae (Jamie) Montoya, Sheena Fletcher and Stephanie Robinson; brothers, Alejandro Maldonado, Juwan "Feather" Montoya, Dustin (Tony) Maldonado, Joseph (Pretty) SunRhodes, Jason (Dawn) Whitney, Jesse (Kristen Burgess) Garriott, Tom Elk Redman, and Red Star Pappan; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and grandparents.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles David Garriott; brother, Jay Montoya; aunt, Marita Brown; and nephews, Bradon Montoya; and Arapaho Oldman, Jr.

Services under the direction of Davis Funeral Home, Crematory, and Monuments.CASPER, Wyo. — The Natrona County Coroner's Office has identified 38-year-old Casper resident Corey David Garriott as the man shot dead by police early Friday morning, Sept. 2.

In a release, the Casper Police Department said officers were patrolling the area around Lake McKenzie Park, located near 1489 Bryan Stock Trail, just before 2 a.m. when they came across a parked vehicle on the shore of the lake.

Two officers made contact with Garriott in the vehicle before he ran, resulting in a foot chase. The release says he pulled out a weapon and fired on the officers. Both returned fire and Garriott was hit.
Garriott was transported by ambulance to the Wyoming Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The officers were not injured, according to the release.

The officers have been put on administrative leave as part of department policy during the investigation.
