Lorrayne I. Burlington, 91, of Orangeburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, after a long illness.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 69 years, Hugh A. Burlington of The Oaks in Orangeburg; sons, Hugh A. Burlington Jr. (Vickie) of Cary, N.C., and David R. Burlington (Elizabeth) of Travelers Rest; daughters, Kay Merchant (Carl) of Summerville and Joyce McCracken (Barry) of Virginia Beach, Va.; grandchildren, Leigh Thompson (Chris), Steve Merchant (Jennifer), Robert T. Burlington (Sally), Jenna Fitch (Miles) and Scott McCracken (Katie). She also leaves to celebrate her life her great-grandchildren, numerous relatives and many special friends.

Mrs. Burlington was born in Orangeburg County, the daughter of the late Elbert and Leila J. Inabnit. A lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Orangeburg, she served as a dedlicated Sunday school teacher, member of the Women's Mission Group and active participant in the senior choir. She attended Orangeburg city schools and Furman University and was a graduate of the University of South Carolina. Many will remember her participation in the community as an elementary school teacher and as a member of Alpha Kappa Delta teacher sorority. Since January 2006, she was a resident of The Oaks United Methodist Church retirement center in Orangeburg.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, in The Oaks chapel.

The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Amedysis Hospice in Orangeburg.

The family would like to thank the staff of The Oaks, and Virginia Hughes, caregiver, for the care and devotion extended over the years.
