Joseph James "Joe" Maher, 83 years old, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 1988, at his home in Kansas City, Kansas, where he had been a lifelong resident. Mr. Maher had been a firefighter until he retired in 1970. He also worked as a maintenance man and night manager for the Cross-Lines Retirement Center for ten years. Mr. Maher was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

His wife, Trena Maher, passed away in 1981. Survivors included a son, Michael Maher, of Harrisonville; a daughter, Janice DeVore, of Kansas City, Kansas; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The Rosary was prayed at the Simmons Chapel, where the family received friends. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment followed at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa.
