Long time Kennewick resident Dorothye Louise Osmond Brock 88, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2006. She was born to Frank and Maude (McNutt) Osmond on June 14, 1918, in Vancouver, WA, at the homestead of her great-grandparents John and Ellen Stanger. The home still stands on its original foundation and is listed in the historic registry.

Upon graduation, Dorothye's employment with the Corps of Engineers took her on many adventures across the U.S. and the Pacific Islands. Some of her fondest memories were of her stay on the Hawaiian Islands and on Guam where she met her husband Roy Coleman Brock. They married on the Island of Guam in 1947 and settled in Kennewick in 1950. Together they had six children, 5 sons and 1 daughter. Roy worked for Bonneville Power and Dorothye continued her employment with the Corps of Engineers, where she retired in 1978.

In 1967, Dorothye's sister-in-law Ruby Duncan passed away and Roy and Dorothye took into their family, Ruby's six children. The three older children Linda, Russell and Connie later left for Texas to live, but Judy, Anita and Keith stayed with Roy and Dorothye. Roy passed four years later and Dorothye continued to work full time while raising the children. Her home was a gathering place for all the neighborhood kids. Dorothye taught all the children in her home to do what made them happy in life while treating all people with respect.

Dorothye was a huge fan of all sports. Some of her greatest joys were attending Kennewick and Kamiakin sporting events, especially when her sons or nephew were participating. She was a huge fan the Seahawks, the Mariners and the Tri-City Americans. She loved attending professional sporting events at the Kingdome and Safeco Field.

Dorothye was involved with many community groups and interests and loved helping others in any way she could. As a volunteer, she was a member and officer of the Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington State, a volunteer for the Kennewick School District as a 'Grandparent Tutor' at Canyon View Elementary, a Senior Companion, a volunteer for the Kennewick General Hospital Auxiliary and a lifelong volunteer for the Democratic Party. Dorothye loved to sew and it was obvious in everything she created. She loved attending sewing classes of all kinds. Dorothye was a regular customer of every fabric store from Pendleton to Portland and beyond.

Dorothye is survived by her children and their families; son Mike Brock and wife Susan and children Heather, Kim and Adam; son Dave Brock and children Amy, Tonja and Julian; son Doug Brock's children Roy and Brian; son Sam Brock and his wife JoAnn; son Dan Brock and wife Sharon and children Autumn, Aaron, Jade and Jake; her daughter Lesley Harman and husband Larry and children ShellyAnn, Joseph and Larry. Dorothye is also survived by her nieces and nephews of the Duncan family which include Linda Martin and children Marijo, Craig, Keith, and Kim; Russell Duncan and children Alexis, Rusty and Brian, Judy Beebe and husband Mick and children Nicholas and Justin; Anita Duncan and children Luana and Shamara; and her nephew Keith Duncan, his wife Robin and their children, Kyle, Kelsie and Brenna. Dorothye had 13 great-grandchildren.

Dorothye was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Maude Osmond; her brothers Howard Osmond and Tom Osmond; her husband Roy Brock; her son Doug Brock; daughter-in-law Ruth Ann Ham; and niece Connie Duncan. Dorothye shared special friendships with Pauline Johnson, Mollie Cone, Katie Barton, Virginia Devine and Joetta Rupert.

Dorothye will be remembered for her beautiful smile, contagious laugh and being a kind and loving woman. Dorothye looked at the bright side of life, took pride in her heritage and was always more than happy to share her Democratic spirit and values. To her, being a Democrat was the brighter party.

The family would like to give special thanks to Toni Dallas, as well as the Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice, and the staff of the Rosetta House in Richland for their loving care during Dorothye's illness.

A celebration of Dorothye's life will be held at The Cathedral of Joy, 1153 Gage Blvd. at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, September 9, 2006.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Tri-Cities Hospice or the Chaplaincy at Hospice House, 2108 W. Entiat, Kennewick, WA 99336.
