Joan Tomlinson was born on October 24th, 1950 to Connie and Percy Tomlinson in Sudbury, ON, and passed away suddenly in her home in St. Catharines on August 29, 2022 at the age of 71. As a child she loved acrobatics and ballet and was an accomplished dancer as a young adult. After graduating high school, she spent time travelling with friends in Spain and Morocco. Joan eventually settled in Nova Scotia where she raised seven children, spending nearly two decades living in the stunning scenery of Cape Breton Island before moving with her children to the Annapolis Valley. Her devotion as a mother was exceptional as she worked to give her children the best life possible, no matter the cost. Later, when her youngest had moved on, Joan turned her attention to one of her life goals: education. Having been a skillful cook as a mother, she loved the idea of expanding on this interest in culinary school. After graduating from this program, she went on to study social work, women's studies, and eventually earned her degree in gerontology from Laurentian University. Joan was passionate about peace and equality and about the health and wellbeing of the elderly and those with disabilities. Although her own health issues prevented her from doing everything she wanted, she enjoyed her time volunteering with the Alzheimers Society, and talked about further volunteer work when her health improved. Joan demonstrated her caring nature by always being there for her children and grandchildren, and looking after her elderly mother. In her final years, Joan showered love upon her dog and daily companion, Rudi, who was by her side in her final moments. She is predeceased by her parents and by her sister Lois. She is survived by her children Matthew (Sharon), Anne, Kirstin (Matthew), Joshua (Cate), Shaune, Ian (Polly), and Diana (Ryan), by her brother Brian (Linda), niece Angelica, and by her eight grandchildren Theodore, Liam, Calvin, Evelyn, Wesley, Owen, Aiden and Oliver. A service will be held September 9th at Bocchinfuso Funeral Home in Thorold ON. Visitation with family at 1pm and service at 2pm. Her final resting place will be in Sudbury. She will be forever in our hearts.
