Age 45, died at the Veterans Hospital in Buffalo after a long illness. A former employee of the Genesee County Highway Dept., had been ill about a year. Born in Pike, the son of the late George and Pearl Merrell, his mother having died in December. He served in the Army during WWII and was a member of the Town of Batavia Fire Dept. Surviving are his wife, Clara Nevinger Merrell; 4 children, Gordon, 12; Verna, 10; Robert,9; and James, 2 1/2; 4 brothers, Clarence of Avon, Gerald of Fillmore, Wally of Portageville and Kenneth Merrell of Rossburg and 4 sisters, Mrs. Ruth Gill of Avon, Mrs. Ruby Papke of Canadea, Mrs. Grace Bennett of Fillmore and Mrs. Erna France of Hume. Rev. Robert F. Spencer of the First Baptist Church, officiating.
