Walter Roddick, 73, died April 27 at Our Lady of Compassion Care Center. A funeral was held at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, downtown. J.L. McCarrey, president of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Second Ward, officiated. Mr. Roddick will be buried in the Anchorage Memorial Park in the spring.

Mr. Roddick was born May 22, 1917 in Highland, Calif. He came to Alaska in 1953 and worked for the Anchorage Fire Department for 15 years. In 1968 he went to work as a geophysical supervisor where he worked on oil exploration on the North Slope for 10 years. According to family, he enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Anchorage Elks Lodge 1351.

He is survived by his wife Adeline of Anchorage; his son, James of Eagle River; his six daughters, Linda McCafferty of Georgia, Judy Dickerson of Highland, Calif, Charlotte Lahti of Anchorage, Janet Workman of Raymond, Alberta, Canada, Nancy Goodson of Milwaukee, Wis., Donna Bowman of Anchorage; his sister, Frances Futch of Highland, Calif.; and 26 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
